Arthritis of the feet can affect your quality of life. When arthritis takes control and causes pain or difficulty walking then it may be in your best interest to consult with a Podiatrist. Treatment of arthritis within the feet usually starts with conservative methods such as orthotics, anti-inflammatory medication and/or physical therapy. When all this fails then surgery may be necessary to restore the foot back to health.
What are the main Reasons for treatment?
At Advanced Foot Clinic we have identified the major types of arthritis that affect the feet and ankles. These types of arthritis include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout. Arthritis can affect the ankle joint - the big toe joint - the joints in the midfoot and/or the three joints in the hindfoot causing you pain.
Surgery becomes necessary when arthritis gets in the way of walking or performing normal daily activities. If the feet or ankles ar left untreated, arthritis can weaken the joints within the ankle or foot making them susceptible to fractures.
